Expedition League Bobblehead Set

Super super excited to share this post.  I’ve been working on this bobblehead subset since 2018.  It’s been a long journey but I’m finally able to say its complete - at least currently, thru the 2020 season.  Although I believe there were a couple teams that thought about doing bobbleheads last season but ultimately scrapped those plans because of the pandemic and loss of fans/games.  Hopefully we’ll see more scheduled for 2021!!

So it all started in 2018 when a new collegiate summer baseball league was formed, called the Expedition League.  I learned about the league and the possibility of bobbleheads in early 2018.  I followed this from afar but knowing I wasn’t really close to any city, it was going to be tough.  In 2018 there were 8 teams in the league and 7 of them did bobbleheads.  At that time I knew I wanted to go for the set and I figured if the league did well, there would be more in the future. 

Thru the 2020 season there are a total of 11 bobbleheads in the Expedition League set.  3 teams did a second bobble (Souris Valley, Badlands and Pierre) and Wheat City joined the league and did their inaugural bobblehead, all in 2019.  Unfortunately one team folded (Hub City) but the league gained another team with Wheat City in 2019 - the Fremont Moo.  And in 2021, 3 teams start their inaugural journey - the Sioux Falls Sunfish, Mining City Tommyknockers and the Canyon County Spuds.  Check out the picture below.  I’ll also make individual posts for each bobblehead!

Joe Mauer & Justin Morneau Mini SGA Bobblehead - Fort Myers Miracle

Here's the 3rd (and final for the time being) rare Twins minor league/affiliated bobblehead.  This is a dual bobble of Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau.  I believe it was given away in 2007 and hugely popular.  The only problem with this one is it's delicate nature.  I know several that have arrived damage.  Its a very fragile bobble, so if you are able to find one without damage, you are lucky!  Otherwise, just know that the majority of them have some degree of damage!  

Tom Kelly Exclusive Zubaz Bobblehead

Just this morning, Shaun over at Fan HQ released a new Tom Kelly bobblehead.  Awesome detail, available signed or unsigned (link below).  Not only does the head bobble, the pitching hand bobbles as well as the pitching machine wheels move!  Like I said - detail is amazing.

Rod Carew - Wilson Tobs Bobblehead

Here's the second rare Minnesota related bobblehead.  Sticking with former Twins greats, this one is Rod Carew from the Wilson Tobs (North Carolina) and easily my favorite Carew bobblehead ever.  Carew played for the team in 1966 as the team was an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.  I've seen this bobblehead 4 different times.  And each time it probably was sold within 24 hours of it hitting the market.  I believe no more than 500 were produced but I wouldn't be surprised if even less got into the hands of fans.  

Harmon Killebrew Bobblehead - Payette Version 2

I plan on blogging about some rare Minnesota bobbleheads over the next couple of months.  I've gotten some questions recently about misc giveaways and whats rare and whats not, why and why not, etc.  So I figured, why not blog about them.  So am sharing my knowledge on several.  And I will say, just because its rare, doesn't mean its valuable.  Rarity and Value do not always coincide.  Supply and Demand determine value.  Quantity available determines rarity.  

Here is one of the rarest Harmon Killebrew bobbles there is.  This comes from Payette, Idaho and Harmon Killebrew Days.  This is the second version and much rarer than the first.  Many of these broke in shipping and were destroyed.  It's also a relatively unknown bobblehead because of the rarity.  Prices on this one can be all over the board.  Ones in less that optimal condition will come in around $50ish while ones in nice condition can easily fetch 3 figures!
