I blogged about this set last summer but needed to set it up again and remember what a bobblehead giveaway actually is like.  The Lindsay Whalen Legacy collection.  These are the last 4 bobbleheads that were part of a giveaway in 2020 before the world flipped upside down.  The Gophers sold a bobblehead mini-plan that featured these 4 bobbleheads and tickets to 4 home games in February and March of 2020.  The next 4 blog posts will feature up close pictures of each one.  

Lindsay Whalen Set

 Lindsay Whalen is one of Minnesota's most beloved hometown heroes!  The University of Minnesota captured her throughout her years from high school to now.  This was a giveaway set last winter, not many were produced and even less people knew about it.  Definitely a hard set to come by as I haven't seen many of them.  

The set features Whalen wearing her hometown Hutchinson jersey, her Gophers jersey, her Lynx jersey and then her as the coach of the Gophers Women's basketball team!  Definitely a nice set, good detail, well made and of course has the state outline as the base!  

Team USA Bobbles - Seimone Augustus & Sylvia Fowles

Yesterday I blogged about the Seimone Augustus bobblehead I recently added to my collection.  It's "twin" is a Sylvia Fowles bobble that LSU also gave away recently.  These are super cool bobbles, of course done by my favorite - Success Promotions.  The detail is great, the red jerseys pop as do the gold medals!

Now, time to get on the Lynx to do a Quad set of Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen, Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles.  Would be cool if they did Team USA jerseys on the front (with gold medals) and their Lynx jerseys on the back.  Fans would absolutely love that type of bobblehead!

New Addition - Seimone Augustus Team USA

One of my newest additions is Seimone Augustus sporting her Team USA jersey (as well as Olympic Gold Medals) that her alma mater, LSU gave out recently.  This was super hard to track down, but due to some extremely good fortune, I was able to add it to my collection.  Freaking awesome!

New Addition - Sylvia Fowles

Here's the latest addition to my collection - a Sylvia Fowles bobblehead.  I've blogged about this one recently and just picked up mine today.  First time the Lynx have done a specialized box and as you all know, I'm a fan of them.  I understand the plain white boxes, but a nice box like this, letting you know what bobblehead is inside just adds a little!  As usual, the Lynx did a great job with the bobble, nothing crazy, but a classic basketball bobblehead.

Sneek Peak - Sylvia Fowles Bobblehead

Back in May I blogged about the Sylvia Fowles bobblehead the Lynx are giving out later this month (August 28th).  I've got a picture of it now and happy to show it off, just like all other recent Lynx bobbles, this is another solid one, and I'm pretty sure its by AGP.  Check it out!

Minnesota Lynx - Sylvia Fowles

The definition of foreshadow is to show or indicate beforehand; prefigure.  I blogged about last year's Lynx bobblehead, Coach Cheryl Reeve back in July of 2015, shortly after the Lynx traded for Sylvia Fowles.  Check it out here, and it'll make the first sentence a bit more clear.  The Lynx are doing a Fowles bobblehead on August 28th!  Get your tickets here.  Once I have a picture of the bobblehead, it'll be on the blog!

Minnesota Lynx 2015 Bobblehead - Coach Reeve

The Lynx have been in the news quite a bit the past few weeks with a few trades.  I thought this was the perfect time to announce their bobblehead giveaway for the 2015 season.  It'll be coach Cheryl Reeve!  As usual the Lynx are atop the standings in the Western Conference and just traded for Sylvia Fowles (perhaps the 2016 bobblehead)!?!  On August 30th, the Lynx will be giving away bobbleheads of coach Cheryl Reeve!  Get your tickets here!  I'll update the blog once I get a picture of the bobblehead!

Review of my 2014 Goals

Did I achieve much in 2014?  Let's find out.  Back in January 2014 I wrote a blog called "2014 Goals" and in August I made a "2014 Goals - Additions" post.  Click the links to review them!

I had 15 goals in total.  Let's see just how great 2014 was!

1. Get a couple more Twins red base bobbleheads.  These are given to season ticket holders and currently I have roughly half of them.  There are some rare and hard to find ones, but I'll do my best to hunt them down.  (I found several more and believe I have the complete set now)

2. Find 1 ecumen bobblehead (for a price I'm willing to pay).  There are 10 total.  I figure if I find 1 a year, it'll only take me 10 years to fulfill the set!  I know I can buy most any of them on ebay for $100 per...but I'm not interested in shelling out that much cash!   (Crazily - I found all of them and all for really good prices!)

3. Find the 1991 World Series set.  Again, I can pay good money to get this off Craigslist or eBay, but will wait it out until I find someone willing to take what I feel is a fair offer.  (Found this set on Craigslist, more to come)

4. Much like the previous "Goal" I'd like to find the Twins Managers set.  (Bought this one with the 1991 set from the same guy!)

5. Come across a couple local celebrity bobbleheads.  The ones I have now, I only knew of about 1/2 of them.  So I'm not even sure who'd they be!   (I've learned so much about these bobbleheads and can't wait to continue to add to this eclectic collection!)

6. I'd like to get the Paul Krause and Bill Brown Viking bobbleheads.  I know I'll have to pay for these, and I'm fine with that.  I just need to pull the trigger.  (I finally pulled the trigger!)

7. I'd also like to find a Goldy bobblehead that I currently don't have.  Right now I believe there are 4 out there that I'd like to own one day.  It'd be nice to come across one of them in 2014.  (I found a couple more, there are still 2 I'd like tho)

8. I'd like to come across and Timberwolves bobblehead that I don't have, either a mini Crunch or Johnny Flynn.  I also found out I need an Al Jefferson.   ( I found all of these and believe I have all Wolves giveaways now)

9. I'd like to complete the 2013-14 Wild bobblehead giveaway collection.  There are 5 in total, I already have one (I'll blog about that sometime soon).   (I got the entire set, 3 from one guy and 2 from another)

10. Last, but certainly not least...I want to have fun hunting.  My wife asked me the other day if I ever think about the mileage and time I spend on bobbleheads - I do, I certainly consider that when making an offer for a bobblehead or selling one.  To me, the excitement is finding the bobblehead.  Getting lucky when emailing someone on Craigslist or finding something unique or cool at a garage sale.  And of course meeting people along the way.  (Of course I had fun...I always have fun!)

11. Previously I mentioned Minnesota celebrities...now I'd like to learn more about other random and miscellaneous Minnesota bobbleheads.  For example, Hermann the German from New Ulm, or Mrs. Farmfest from Morgan.  I didn't know about either of these until I either saw them in a picture somewhere or in a friend's collection.  (As I mentioned earlier...I continue to learn about these all the time!)

12. Collect all Lynx bobbleheads.  They have given away several, so its a nice little collection so far.  (I'm well on my way but am uncertain if I have them all or not!)

13. Learn even more about the Pepsi One bobbleheads and find the 3 announcers - Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler.   (I've learned a bit more about these, but still looking for more)

14. Been pondering trying to get a couple email interviews from a variety of people.  Perhaps someone at AGP (or formerly worked there).  Maybe some of my readers - let me know if you are interested.  And maybe someone with the Twins.  It'd be fun to see a start to finish process of how a bobblehead is chosen and then created and produced.  (I actually have talked to AGP and plan on doing a blog post about that sometime soon!)

15. Much like #10 to keep having fun, but this time its more about the blog than the collecting.  I've had a lot of fun blogging about bobbleheads and really want to continue that trend!  (Duh...doesn't the previous 14 goals pretty much answer this one?)  

2014 Spring/Summer Finds #1

The top spot on my 2014 Spring/Summer Finds list is all about one lucky day.  I went to a few garage sales and thrift stores late this summer.  The first one I stopped at, I found this Josh Willingham bobblehead.  No, not the "hammer" bobblehead, the red base, season ticket holder one.  Definitely the most valuable Willingham bobblehead!

At the very next stop, I found one of the most popular recent Twins bobbleheads.  Kent Hrbek and Ron Gant from the 1991 World Series.  

And lastly I found these 2 bobbleheads at my last stop.  Quite the haul for me!  Easily my biggest haul in terms of value when you consider there were only 4 bobbleheads total.  Chi Chi Rodriguez and Maya Moore from the Lynx.  Luck certainly one out that day!

2014 Goals - Additions

Been meaning to write an update to my 2014 goals post from earlier this year.  Here's the original post I did back in January.

As I said in that post, I'll review my goals at the end of 2014 to see what I've accomplished.  I'd like to add a few more goals to the list.  I've been collecting for about 2 years now and about 9 months into this blog thing.  I know a ton more today than I did 6 months ago, even more than I did 12 months ago.  Part of that comes through collecting and part of that comes from conversations I've had with blog readers and other collectors.

I sincerely love interacting with my readers, I can genuinely say I look forward to it.  It's fun to hear stories and learn more about bobbleheads in general!  So please - leave more comments!

Let's get to the goal additions!

Former Gopher Greats!

Local sports heroes, Lindsay Whalen (Hutchinson, MN) and Janel McCarville (Stevens Point, WI) turned the Gopher Womens hoops team around a little over 10 years ago.  They were the main pieces in a 2004 Final Four run.  Roughly 5 years ago the team decided to sell Whalen (and a year later) McCarville bobbleheads.  I believe only 1000 of each were produced.  I've been looking for each of these for a while and finally found them this weekend.  And after a couple nights ago, they each have Gopher as well as Lynx bobbleheads!

My only question (and I'm sure Janel is curious about this too), why is Lindsay taller than Janel?  Enjoy!

Janel McCarville Bobblehead Night!

Tonight is/was Janel McCarville Bobblehead Night at the Target Center!  I posted a blog about this a couple weeks ago about this - read it here.  It's a good lookin' bobblehead and another solid one from the Lynx. They won the game too, their 11th win in a row.  And McCarville was her usual self with a nice all-around game.  Check out the bobblehead.

Minnesota Lynx Bobblehead Giveaway - Janel McCarville

I recently learned that the Lynx are doing a bobblehead giveaway this season.  Janel McCarville will get the nod (pun intended) in August.  The Lynx have done a great job the past several years with their bobblehead giveaways.  I figured McCarville would be a good option in 2014, but there was one small lingering issue - she was a free agent.  Once the Lynx resigned her I had a feeling she might get a bobblehead.  Being a former fan favorite as a Gopher and a new fan favorite with the Lynx it made perfect sense.

Luckily I was able to track down a picture (thanks to some great people within the Lynx organization) as I feel pictures are always important to add to my blog posts!  So...if you are a Lynx fan, a McCarville fan, or a bobblehead fan, mark August 7th on your calendars and get to the Target Center to pick up your Janel McCarville bobblehead!  Here's a link for tickets!

2013 Best Garage Sale Finds #4

I had been looking for the following bobblehead for quite a while.  I had seen a couple, but they were going for a bit more than I was willing to spend.  The box was in rough shape, so I wasn't sure if the bobblehead inside was damaged or in good condition.  After inspecting it, I was completely happy!  It was listed for $10, but I asked if the seller would take $5, she happily agreed to that, I boxed it back up and was on my way. Since that garage sale, I've actually come across this bobblehead 2 more times and I bought both of them and resold each.

The Lynx bobbleheads are a bit more rare, just because they don't have the production run that many other of the local pro sports teams do.  I believe the Lynx give out roughly 2500 or each.  I have most of the Lynx ones that have been given away at games, but not all of them.  Eventually I hope to get them all.  But this was my #4 garage sale find of 2013.  Maya Moore - she can freaking play ball!
